Perplexity Unveils Comet Shortcuts: Streamlining Web Automation with Simple Commands

Perplexity has introduced Comet Shortcuts, a feature designed to automate repetitive web tasks using simple natural language commands. This announcement was made by CEO Aravind Srinivasan on his social media platforms.

Comet Shortcuts allows users to create and activate automated workflows directly in their browser by entering a command with the «/» key from anywhere within the platform. This capability simplifies actions such as extracting data from websites, submitting forms, or navigating to specific pages through reusable prompt-based shortcuts.

Interestingly, users who have access to Comet are already taking advantage of the new Shortcut feature, and initial feedback has been quite favorable. One financial expert shared how he utilizes this function to automatically gather data on upcoming earnings, historical financial performance, and analyst opinions, combining all of this into a comprehensive report with a single command. Another user employed this feature to generate automatic responses based on the current page’s content. Additionally, some individuals are using it to save time by automating recurring online tasks.

Beyond the new feature, many early users are already impressed with Comet as a whole. It is positioned as a hybrid tool that merges AI-powered search capabilities with practical web automation. Recently, one user described how they requested Comet to scan their Gmail inbox for subscriptions and then unsubscribe from those that were no longer needed.

However, Perplexity is no longer the sole AI browser in this race. Microsoft recently announced the Copilot mode for its Edge browser, which also aids in navigating tabs, comparing them, and executing actions. Yet, this feature is still in the experimental phase and is not available to everyone.
