Microsoft Empowers Edge with New AI-Powered Copilot Mode

Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Copilot Mode in its Edge browser, allowing users to navigate web pages using artificial intelligence.

Once activated, a new tab opens for the user, enabling them to search, chat, and browse the internet with the help of Copilot. When visiting websites, users can seek assistance from the AI assistant.

In one example, Microsoft demonstrated a scenario where a person inquired if a recipe they found could be made vegan.

While the ability to ask questions to chatbots is not new, Copilot Mode simplifies the process by eliminating the need to share content separately.

Users can also request the AI to provide the recipe directly, bypassing the often lengthy «backstory» of the author accompanying such instructions.

The company noted that Copilot can perform tasks on behalf of users, such as scheduling appointments, creating shopping lists, and generating content. Additionally, voice input functionality is available.

Another feature allows the AI to view open tabs, which helps it comprehend the content being explored. This is particularly useful for comparing products or conducting online research.

The goal is to have the AI act as an assistant that understands user queries, anticipates their intentions, and can carry out actions on their behalf.

Copilot Mode is available for free to all users with Mac or PC access to Copilot.

As a reminder, in July, Microsoft released a number of new AI-powered features for Windows 11.
