8BitDo Introduces Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller with Enhanced TMR Sticks

8BitDo has introduced a new iteration of its popular Ultimate Wireless Controller, which now features sticks with Tunnel Magnetoresistive (TMR) technology.

The manufacturer claims that TMR sticks are “more accurate” and consume less power compared to their Hall effect counterparts. With this release, 8BitDo is catching up to its main competitors, like GameSir and GuliKit, who have already launched several TMR-based models.

Two variants are available: the Ultimate 2 at $59.99 and the more affordable Ultimate 2C priced at $29.99.

This latest version includes significant changes—both in design and functionality. The Ultimate 2 borrows several modern features from the budget-friendly Ultimate 2C, such as customizable R4 and L4 buttons, as well as support for wireless (2.4 GHz) and wired connections with a maximum polling rate of 1000 Hz.

The Ultimate 2 Wireless boasts a feature set that includes:

— TMR sticks,
— ultra-low latency and stable 2.4 GHz connection,
— 1000 Hz polling rate (for both 2.4 GHz and wired connections),
— RGB backlit Fire Ring joysticks,
— additional buttons (R4 and L4),
— two Pro back paddles,
— trigger mode switch,
— Hall effect triggers,
— tactile buttons and D-pad,
— 6-axis motion control,
— Turbo functionality,
— vibration feedback,
— compatibility with Ultimate Software V2.

Initial users have noted that the new model also features an enhanced D-pad design. The rear switches allow for “easy toggling between linear Hall triggers and non-linear tactile triggers for optimal control across various gaming scenarios.”

The Ultimate 2 and Ultimate 2C models are compatible with PC and Android platforms, but the higher-end version stands out with RGB Fire Ring lighting effects and includes a magnetic charging dock. Insiders speculate that 8BitDo may release versions for Nintendo Switch and Xbox in the near future.

Previously, 8BitDo unveiled an alternative wired controller called the Xbox Ultimate C, which is 20% smaller and 10% lighter than standard models. Weighing in at 189.6 grams, the 8BitDo Ultimate Mini features controls of the same size as those on standard controllers, but arranged more closely together. The back also includes Hall effect trigger sensors along with a pair of shoulder buttons.
