65 Wounded, Including Children, in Russian Missile Attack on Sumy, Ukraine

A missile strike by Russian forces on the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine on Monday resulted in injuries to 65 individuals, including 14 children, according to statements from the regional prosecutor’s office.

The local prosecutor’s office reported that «the enemy targeted a heavily populated residential area in Sumy,» noting that the attack caused damage to residential buildings and an educational institution.

Artem Kobzar, the acting mayor of the city, indicated earlier that a hospital was also struck during the assault.

Videos shared by regional authorities depicted burned and smoke-filled high-rise structures, debris scattered across a basketball court, and firefighters working to extinguish a fire.

In the early stages of its full-scale invasion in 2022, Russia temporarily occupied parts of the Sumy region. The city is located near the Kursk region in Russia, where Ukrainian forces launched a surprise offensive last August before largely retreating.
