Эксперты предупреждают о рисках квантовых вычислений для биткоина и призывают к созданию стратегий защиты Translation: Experts warn of quantum computing risks for Bitcoin and urge for the creation of protection strategies.

Castle Island Ventures partner Nick Carter has criticized developers for overlooking the threat posed by quantum computing. He believes that the refusal to acknowledge these risks is already putting pressure on the price of the leading cryptocurrency.

Carter’s remarks came in response to a series of posts by Blockstream CEO Adam Back. Previously, the cryptographer stated that quantum technologies are still in their infancy and pose no real danger in the coming decades. Back is confident that even a breach of some encryption would not result in the theft of coins on the network.

Carter asserts that there is a significant divide between capital holders and technical experts. Investors are concerned and seeking solutions, while developers remain in a state of complete denial about the issue.

The businessman pointed out that the current complacency contradicts the philosophy of «active paranoia,» which is typically associated with the Bitcoin community. He highlighted key risk factors:

Craig Warmke, a member of the Bitcoin Policy Institute, echoed this sentiment.

He believes that fear of quantum technologies is hindering new investments in digital gold and causing major holders to diversify their portfolios.

Warmke criticized developers for nitpicking terminology in response to concerns from average users. According to him, attempts to convince the public that the risk is zero are destined to fail. Explanations will be too complex, and people tend to trust quantum physics scientists more than Bitcoin coders.

Experts agreed that the only effective solution is to develop a clear action plan in case of a breach. Having a contingency plan will help investors feel more secure.

Notably, analyst Willy Woo believes that in the event of a hypothetical quantum attack on Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallets, «old whales» will protect the market.
