Уголовное дело против подростка: арестовали за опасный вопрос к ChatGPT Criminal Case Against Teen: Arrested for Dangerous Question to ChatGPT

Police apprehended 13-year-old Jan Franco from Florida (USA) after he made a query to ChatGPT. He was inquiring about how to «kill a friend in the middle of class,» according to a report by WFLA, referencing the local sheriff’s office.

The incident took place on September 27 at a middle school in Volusia County. The request was flagged by Gaggle—a student online activity monitoring system that alerts staff to potentially harmful behavior.

Upon receiving the alert, the school’s administration contacted law enforcement and reported details about the teenager.

After his arrest, Franco claimed he was «just trolling» an annoying friend. However, authorities took the matter seriously, warning about the consequences even for jokes related to planning a murder at school.

«This serves as a reminder to be mindful of one’s language. Even if a threat is not intended, it can cause concern and signal danger for students,» commented a representative from the Florida school.

The sheriff’s office stated that this was yet another «joke» that created an emergency situation. No details regarding potential punishment for Franco were disclosed.

It is worth noting that in September, OpenAI launched a special version of ChatGPT with parental controls for users under 18, aiming to enhance safety measures. The company has promised to notify the police of suspicious communications with its bot.
