«Стратегия HODL: Убытки Strategy достигли $12,6 млрд на фоне коррекции рынка» Headline: HODL Strategy: Strategys Losses Reach $12.6 Billion Amid Market Correction

A significant market correction has resulted in multi-billion dollar losses for Strategy, the largest corporate holder of the leading cryptocurrency. This is indicated in a report from the company founded by Michael Saylor.

The operational loss reached $17.4 billion, primarily due to unrealized losses on bitcoin reserves. The net loss was $12.6 billion compared to $671 million the previous year.

MSTR shares closed the session around $107, dropping to approximately $100 in after-hours trading. The stock lost over 70% compared to last year’s figures, forfeiting the premium investors had previously assigned.

According to Messari’s assessment, Strategy’s losses are comparable to those experienced by giants like AIG, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac during the 2008 crisis.

An expert noted that February’s bitcoin crash resulted in an additional $14 billion in unrealized losses. Thus, the total decline in asset value since the end of 2022 approached $31 billion.

As of early February, Strategy holds 713,502 BTC on its balance sheet. A significant portion of these reserves was accumulated during the rally at the end of 2024 when the price of digital gold briefly rose above $126,000. The average purchase price of bitcoin is around $76,000.

Just four months ago, when prices were at historic highs, the «paper» profit of the treasury giant reached $31 billion.

Michael Saylor responded to the current situation with a succinct post on X: «HODL.»

Strategy CEO Phong Lee assured investors of the company’s balance sheet resilience during the market correction.

In a webinar discussing the fourth quarter results, he clarified that risks concerning debt servicing would only arise in an extreme scenario: if bitcoin falls to $8,000 and stays there for 5-6 years.

«In the case of a drastic 90% drop in bitcoin’s price to $8,000, our reserves would equal our net debt. At that point, we would be unable to repay convertible bonds with bitcoin and would have to resort to restructuring, issuing additional shares, or acquiring new debt,» Lee said.

CFO Andrew Kang emphasized the company’s commitment to a long-term approach, adding: «Even amidst volatility, we continue to execute our strategy.»

Saylor supported this assertion.

«Such quarterly fluctuations can be sharp and alarming. However, it is important to emphasize that our strategy is designed for the long term. It is meant to withstand short-term volatility and even the extreme conditions we see today,» he stated.

The founder of Strategy urged investors to focus on positive fundamental factors, including favorable regulatory shifts.

Saylor also commented on the quantum threat to the leading cryptocurrency. He dismissed the relevance of such risks, labeling them part of the «FUD» phenomenon.

«The consensus is that it will take at least 10 years before a real threat arises. The technology is promising but still in its early stages,» he remarked.

The entrepreneur highlighted that quantum computers pose a threat not only to bitcoin but also to financial and defense sectors that depend on traditional cryptography.

According to Saylor, significant investments are already being made in the development of protective protocols. The network of the leading cryptocurrency will receive necessary updates through «global consensus.»

«Bitcoin is upgradable; it can be made more secure. We believe that humanity will rise to the challenges and find rational technical solutions,» stated the founder of Strategy.

To achieve consensus regarding quantum resilience, the company will launch the Bitcoin Security program, which will involve collaboration with cybersecurity experts and the crypto community.

Saylor also noted the company’s «strong position»:

«We have effective management, secure backing, and a responsible structure. This allows us to weather tough months, quarters, and even multiyear cycles. We have done this before and are prepared to continue in the future.»

It is worth noting that in December, Strategy’s head, Phong Lee, emphasized that he is not overly concerned about bitcoin’s short-term dynamics.
