“Transactions are functioning as expected. If you continue to have difficulties, kindly refresh the application or your browser window,” the developers stated.

They informed users about the difficulties on January 14. The cause of the disruption remains unclear, but the team has promised to release further details in the coming days.

In light of the news, the price of the native token SUI briefly surged by 4%. However, in the past 24 hours, the rate has decreased by 2%—down to $1.79.

This disruption marks the second most significant issue since the network’s launch in May 2023. Sui had already experienced challenges in November 2024, when the blockchain failed to process blocks for two hours.

Members of the community speculated that the incident could have been due to a DOS attack. According to the developers, the problem stemmed from an error in the transaction scheduling logic.

Similar issues have also occurred with Solana, with the latest incident happening in February 2024. Developers from Laine attributed the halt to a decrease in network performance, which they resolved by restarting the blockchain.

It’s worth noting that in November 2025, the Sui team announced the upcoming launch of the stablecoin USDsui, with a release planned for 2026.
