Samsung Corporation will enable Galaxy smartphone users to directly purchase cryptocurrency via an integrated wallet through a partnership with the Bitcoin exchange Coinbase.

Initially, approximately 75 million device users in the United States will have access to the subscription service Coinbase One. This platform offers zero trading fees, enhanced staking rewards, and fund recovery in case of unauthorized third-party actions.

In the coming months, the partners plan to expand the initiative beyond the United States.

American customers of the exchange can also top up their account balance using Samsung Pay. This integration was first announced in July.

“Samsung Wallet is a reliable tool for millions of Galaxy users, and we are continually seeking creative ways to enhance its functionality by adding new features,” said Drew Blackard, Vice President of Mobile Devices at Samsung Electronics America.

Coinbase has applied to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for national trust company status.

“Coinbase is taking a significant step to expand our business opportunities and regulatory oversight beyond existing frameworks, paving the way for innovation and growth in building a modern financial system based on digital assets,” the statement read.

Furthermore, Coinbase clarified that it does not intend to become a bank. The acquisition of the OCC license is part of the company’s strategy to «bridge the gap between the crypto economy and the traditional financial system.»

The trust charter will open new avenues for launching products that go beyond custodial services, including payments and related services, thanks to regulatory transparency, the company added.

Currently, Anchorage Digital holds the exclusive federal trust bank license in the crypto industry.

Recall that last summer, similar applications were submitted to the OCC by Circle and Ripple.
