Новый модульный биткоин-майнер от Block: долговечность, эффективность и потенциал для децентрализации Translation: New Modular Bitcoin Miner from Block: Longevity, Efficiency, and Decentralization Potential

Founded by Jack Dorsey, Block has unveiled a new Bitcoin mining solution called Proto Rig modular units. According to the developers’ estimates, this product could reduce miners’ costs by 15-20%.

Proto Rig is designed for a 10-year lifespan, in contrast to standard ASICs, which become outdated in 3-5 years. As noted on the project’s website, the device offers:

Users can swap out fan modules and hash boards without dismantling the entire system. A fanless power supply and three-phase power distribution enhance the efficiency of the infrastructure.

Thomas Templeton, Block’s hardware lead, remarked that current solutions «often fail, are difficult to repair, and upgrades entail significant expenses.» The company’s new product aims to address these issues while promoting the decentralization of mining.

«The design of the Proto Rig allows for three mining boards to be accommodated in the space typically occupied by two traditional miners, delivering over 1.5 times the power per rack unit compared to the most efficient compact devices available. Engineered to function on both modern and outdated energy infrastructures, it also ensures optimal electricity usage,» he added.

Block has shown interest in mining for several years now. In April 2024, the company completed the development of a 3-nm chip for mining the first cryptocurrency.

In July 2025, the firm entered into a collaboration with miner Core Scientific. Dorsey’s company provided the firm with new chips with a total capacity of approximately ~15 EH/s.

It is worth noting that Ethan Vera, the COO of Luxor Technology, stated that the new tariffs introduced by Donald Trump could hinder the growth of the mining industry in the U.S.
