On September 5, a whale that participated in the ICO sent 150,000 ETH (approximately $665 million) to a staking address after four years of inactivity.

According to on-chain data, this significant investor acquired 1 million ETH through three addresses during the 2015 initial offering.

The last time assets were moved was in 2021 when 55,000 ETH were sent to the Gemini exchange, with the coin priced at $2,500 at that time.

He retains ownership of 250,000 ETH valued at around $1.1 billion, including the assets sent for staking.

Earlier, analysts from Santiment reported that in the past five months, large players have increased their holdings of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap by 14%, purchasing 5.54 million ETH.

In total, Ethereum whales hold 42.5 million ETH worth $186.4 billion—approximately 35% of the circulating supply.

Simultaneously, another large holder moved a portion of their bitcoins—479 BTC valued at over $54 million.

This whale «awoke» for the first time since 2012, as previous transactions to this address involved relatively small amounts of coins.

It’s worth noting that David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, accused two whales of «slowing down» Bitcoin. The wallets he mentioned sold 80,000 BTC and 120,000 BTC.
