Виталик Бутерин призывает к переходу на открытые системы в медицине и финансах для повышения безопасности и доверия Translation: Vitalik Buterin Calls for Transition to Open Systems in Medicine and Finance to Enhance Safety and Trust

Healthcare, the financial sector, and government management require transparent and verifiable systems, as noted by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

He emphasized that reliance on centralized solutions in these crucial areas undermines trust and decreases security levels.

«The civilizations that gained the most from new waves of innovation are not the ones that merely consumed technologies, but those that created them,» Buterin stated.

The expert further explained that «openness and verifiability can counteract global fragmentation.» In his view, systems characterized by such attributes may eventually form the foundation of worldwide infrastructures.

«Default technologies are likely to be developed and governed by centralized corporations,» he cautioned. «However, we have an opportunity to steer development in a healthier direction.»

Buterin pointed out that proprietary medical technologies limit access, create «data monopolies,» and heighten surveillance risks. He cited the example of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, where closed manufacturing and communication systems eroded public trust. In contrast, he highlighted initiatives like PopVax, which employ open processes to reduce costs and levels of distrust.

Similar risks are evident in the financial sector. Buterin noted a stark contrast: a cryptocurrency transaction took him just five seconds, while sending a signed legal document abroad took thirty minutes and cost $119.

“Cryptowallets and blockchain systems are already demonstrating themselves as an open and verifiable infrastructure capable of eliminating inefficiencies,” the expert emphasized.

He also urged the development of secure open hardware and software for critical public systems, especially for voting.

Reminding of the long-standing distrust in electronic voting solutions, Buterin noted that a closed «black box» cannot foster public confidence.

Previously, the Ethereum co-founder has repeatedly spoken out in defense of privacy, calling it the foundation of freedom.

In April, Buterin highlighted that decentralized applications require «a strong social philosophy.»
