Виталик Бутерин: Открытые системы в медицине и финансах — ключ к восстановлению доверия и безопасности Translation: Vitalik Buterin: Open Systems in Medicine and Finance Are Key to Restoring Trust and Security

Healthcare, the financial sector, and government administration require transparent and verifiable systems, noted Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

He emphasized that reliance on centralized solutions in critical areas undermines trust and diminishes security levels.

«Civilizations that have gained the most from new waves of innovation are not those that consumed technology, but those that created it,» Buterin stated.

The expert added that «openness and verifiability can counteract global fragmentation.» In his view, devices with these characteristics may eventually form the foundation of global systems.

«By default, we are likely to end up with digital technologies that are created and managed by centralized corporations,» he warned. «However, we have the opportunity to steer development in a healthier direction.»

Buterin pointed out that proprietary medical technologies restrict access, create «data monopolies,» and heighten surveillance risks. He cited the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, where closed manufacturing and communication systems eroded public trust. In contrast, he highlighted initiatives like PopVax, which employ open processes to lower costs and increase trust.

Similar risks are present in the financial sector. Buterin noted a stark contrast: a crypto transaction took him just five seconds, while sending a signed legal document abroad took half an hour and cost $119.

«Cryptowallets and blockchain systems are already demonstrating themselves as open and verifiable infrastructures capable of eliminating inefficiencies,» the specialist underscored.

He also called for the development of secure open hardware and software for critical public systems, particularly for voting.

Citing long-standing distrust in electronic voting solutions, Buterin remarked that a closed «black box» cannot ensure public confidence.

Previously, the Ethereum co-founder had repeatedly spoken out in defense of privacy, labeling it the foundation of freedom.

In April, Buterin highlighted that decentralized applications require «a solid social philosophy.»
