Взлом Crypto.com: Хакеры используют фишинг для доступа к учетной записи сотрудника биржи Translation: Crypto.com Hacked: Hackers Use Phishing to Access Exchange Employees Account

The cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com has not reported a breach in which hackers accessed an employee’s account. This was noted by Bloomberg.

The attack was orchestrated by a teenager named Noah Urban from the Scattered Spider group and his accomplice. They utilized phishing techniques to obtain the employee’s login credentials.

A spokesperson for Crypto.com stated that the breach affected the personal information of «a very small number of individuals.» According to him, customer funds remained safe.

The incident occurred in 2023. During a search, the FBI confiscated $4 million in cryptocurrency, cash, and jewelry from Urban. In January 2024, he was arrested on charges of hacking 13 companies. Later, the hacker was sentenced to ten years in prison.

On-chain investigator ZachXBT criticized Crypto.com for concealing the data theft. He also mentioned that the exchange had been «hacked several times.»

A company representative stated in a comment to Cointelegraph that the firm reported the incident to the American licensing system NMLS and informed other regulators.

Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek referred to claims of a cover-up as «disinformation from uninformed sources.»

He confirmed that the company had reported to American and other relevant regulatory bodies.

It is worth noting that in May, ZachXBT reported that within a week, criminals had stolen $45 million from Coinbase users using social engineering tactics.

Later, the exchange announced that as a result of a data leak in December 2024, hackers obtained information on 69,461 customers.
